Right the original story of beauty and the beast was French, and Belle means beauty.
and the story goes that belle is a kind hearted girl but she had 2 (not evil but... lets say not so nice..) sisters and a father.
one day the father had to go into town (or some where far away) and asked what his daughters wanted. the 2 sisters said that they wanted gems, rings, dresses, shoes and so on...
But belle only wanted a rose.

after getting the sisters what they wanted, the father seen a rose behind a gate. he climbed over the wall and seen that in rose was in the grounds of an old plaice.
when he went to pick the flower the hand of a beast stopped him.

the father explain to the beast that it was for his daughter, the beast agreed to let him take the rose IF he returned to work for him (or something like that). BUT if he did not return he would kill the him.
the father agreed and returned home, after seeing how pleased belle was with the rose he could not bear to leave.

that night the beast found that the father hand not returned. so he went to his home to kill him and take back the rose. but belle pleaded with the beast not to and offered that she go in the fathers place.
the beast agreed and took belle to the castle.

at the castle she was treated like a princess and every night after dinner the beast would ask belle for her hand in marriage . but belle kindly said no every night, and every night in her dreams a prince would come and ask why she did not marry the beast. and every night she would wake and search for the prince in the castle thinking that the beast must be hiding him some where but she never found him......

one day the beast seen that belle was sad and asked why, she said that she missed her family and wanted to see them. the beast allowed her to go see her family but before she left he gave her a magic mirror which would show her any thing she asked it to so she could find her way back.
but he warned her that if she did return after 3 days then consequence would follow.......

that day she return home and told her family that she was ok and had to return with in days, the sisters full of hate for there sister who was being treated like a princess begged her to stay saying that they could not bear her to leave again.
so she stayed longer that she promised the beast, on the 5th she wondered about the beast and asked the mirror to see him.

she saw the beast lying on the floor dieing, she asked the mirror what of and it said "a broken heart".
she went as fast as she could. she begged the beast not to die and he simply asked "why?" and she replied "because love you! and i will marry you!" and kissed him at that moment the beast turned into the prince of her dreams.

and the old crumbling castle turned into a beautiful palace, at the same moment the 2 sisters turned to stone until they where willing to say they where sorry to belle. (where they never did being stone and what not)
